Nagaland: RPF Seizes Contraband Worth Rs 53 Lakhs in Dimapur Railway Station
Northeast Desk, 5th May: During the first four months of 2024, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) stationed at Dimapur Railway Station has made significant strides in combating illegal activities, as revealed during a press conference at the RPF commissioner’s office. Assistant Security Commissioner Vimal Chandra Das disclosed that contraband worth approximately Rs 53 lakhs was seized during this period.
The seizures included a substantial quantity of suspected brown sugar and ganja, valued at Rs 51.05 lakhs, along with illegal foreign goods worth approximately ₹199,800. Prompt action by the RPF led to the confiscation of these illicit substances, which were then handed over to the Government Railway Police Station (GRPS) in Dimapur. Additionally, the vigilant efforts of the RPF resulted in the rescue of 20 minors allegedly being trafficked to another state, who were safely handed over to Childline Dimapur for necessary care and support. One woman was also rescued and provided refuge at the “Sakhi Shelter Home” in Dimapur.
In another incident, the RPF foiled an attempt to drug a passenger for the purpose of theft, seizing sedative drugs and apprehending one criminal in connection with the incident.
Das highlighted the enforcement of the Railway Act, with 176 cases reported during the period, leading to the arrest of 182 individuals. Responding to concerns regarding the misuse of religious institutions in smuggling illegal products, Das issued a stern warning against such exploitation, reassuring the public of rigorous operations to curb such offenses.
He appealed for public cooperation and reiterated the RPF’s commitment to maintaining close coordination with local law enforcement agencies. Addressing prevalent crimes such as personal belonging snatching on running trains, Das pledged swift action against offenders within the railway perimeter and urged passengers in need of assistance to contact the RPF or GRPF offices stationed within the railway premises.
Moreover, Das discussed the forthcoming RPF recruitment drive, highlighting the availability of 4026 vacant posts and encouraging eligible candidates, particularly those from Nagaland, to apply and avail of the benefits offered.
