Nagaland Super League Set to Launch in 2024, Elevating State’s Football Scene
Kohima: In a significant development for football enthusiasts in Nagaland, the state is set to launch its very own Nagaland Super League (NSL) in 2024. The announcement was made during a recent governing body meeting chaired by Neibu Sekhose, president of the Nagaland Football Association (NFA) and executive member of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
The inaugural season will see eight franchise teams compete, marking a new chapter for local football in the state. The NSL media team disclosed that Letters of Interest and advertisements will soon be issued to attract potential franchise owners. In a bid to ensure transparency, detailed criteria for franchise ownership will be made available to the public.
The governing body, composed of nine members, has also established various committees to manage the logistical, technical, and promotional aspects of the league, ensuring smooth operations. Neibu Sekhose reaffirmed the NFA’s commitment to fostering football excellence in Nagaland, emphasizing that the NSL aims to provide a competitive platform for local talents, promoting the sport while celebrating the state’s rich football culture.
This initiative follows a supportive announcement from the state Chief Minister during the inauguration of the 23rd Dr. T. Ao Inter-District Championships Trophy in Tuensang. Sekhose expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and the state government for their unwavering support in making the vision of a professional football league in Nagaland a reality.
