Nagaland Tapi Bypolls: NDPP Candidate Takes Lead in Counting
Northeast Desk, 3rd December: The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has secured a distinct lead in the by-elections for the Tapi constituency in Nagaland.
Wangpang Konyak, the NDPP candidate, has taken a significant lead over his rivals as the vote counting process unfolds during the by-elections.
Wanglem Konyak from the Congress is the primary contender against Konyak in today’s by-elections.
Vote counting commenced at 8 am on Sunday for the Tapi Assembly seat in Nagaland’s Mon district, necessitated by the unfortunate demise of NDPP MLA Noke Wangnao on August 28.
A total of 15,256 voters, comprising 7,788 men and 7,468 women, were eligible to participate in the by-election. Among the 23 polling stations in the constituency, seven were classified as vulnerable, and six were deemed critical.
Despite stringent security measures on polling day, a notable voter turnout of 96.25% was recorded during the polling process.
