Nagaland to Host G20 Summit 2023 in Kohima

Guwahati: Nagaland Chief Secretary J Alam declared on March 18 that the state is prepared to host the G20 Summit which is slated to take place in Kohima on April 5.

”The state government is fully prepared to host the summit event. Preparations are underway for a grand welcome of the G20 delegates who will participate in the summit meeting,” Alam said.

Alam further mentioned that the state is hosting a business gathering that will include guests from the G20 nations and that the airport, roads and venues are all undergoing renovations in preparation for the major event.

He said India’s year-long presidency of G20 which began in December 2022 is a matter of great honour for the country, adding, ”In the G20 calendar, meetings will be held year-round in over 33 cities”.

Alam commented on the delegates stating that approximately 110 delegates are anticipated to visit the country of which approximately 100 will be from the 28 G20 countries and the balance from associated international organisations.

”The delegates will arrive on special flights on April 4,” he said.

He added that business representatives from major continental companies, ambassadors and other top officials from each country would be present at the summit.

Alam went on to say that there will be business meetings and cultural events that will highlight Nagaland’s assets during the summit events.

”The meetings would focus mostly on agriculture and allied services, the food processing industry and tourism,” Alam avowed. 

Alam stated that a ceremonial welcome for the delegates will take place on April 4 at the Capital Cultural Hall in Kohima and that on April 5 business meetings will take place at the State Banquet Hall.

”A cultural evening and dinner will be organised at Kisama Naga Heritage Village where the famous Hornbill Festival will be showcased for the guests,” he said.
