Nagaland to Introduce Early Warning System for Enhanced Disaster Preparedness
Kohima: Nagaland is set to implement an Early Warning System (EWS) to bolster its disaster preparedness and provide timely alerts for natural calamities.
This development comes on the heels of a request by Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak, which received immediate support from Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh.
The EWS will serve as a critical tool, issuing warnings for a range of disasters, including earthquakes, extreme weather events like heatwaves and heavy rainfall, lightning strikes, landslides, and other calamities. Given Nagaland’s susceptibility to such events, the system is expected to play a vital role in safeguarding lives and property by enhancing response measures.
Phangnon Konyak expressed her gratitude to Dr Singh for his swift action, underscoring the importance of disaster preparedness for the people of Nagaland. The system aims to fortify early detection and mitigation efforts, thereby reducing the impact of natural calamities in the region.
