Nagaland: Woman Allegedly Assaults 10-Year-Old Boy Suspected of Theft in Wokha District

Northeast Desk, 14th April: In a disturbing incident unfolding in Sanis town of Wokha district, a woman allegedly physically assaulted a ten-year-old boy on suspicion of stealing eggs from her house, marking a troubling escalation of vigilante justice.

The alleged perpetrator, identified only as Zubeni, is said to be a resident of Sanis town. Visuals circulating on social media depict physical injuries on the boy’s legs, hands, back, and bleeding from the head, with allegations that Zubeni inserted a blunt object into his mouth as well. However, the full identity of the woman has yet to be confirmed.

According to reports, the boy’s father, speaking over the phone, refused to file a complaint against Zubeni, instead expressing a willingness to forgive her and leaving legal action to the law enforcement agency. He declined to lodge an FIR.

The woman and the alleged victim were reported to be neighbors and residents of Sanis town, further complicating the dynamics of the incident.

In response to the assault, the Child Welfare Committee of Wokha has taken custody of the boy and transferred him to a shelter for medical care and counseling, highlighting the urgent need for intervention and support for the young victim in the aftermath of the traumatic ordeal.
