Nagaland: Woman Held with Cash Worth Rs 1.4 Cr

Guwahati: A woman was arrested for carrying an enormous amount of Rs 1.4 crore cash at the Inter-State checkpoint in poll-bound Nagaland’s Khuzama.

Members of the Static Surveillance Team found the cash while frisking a car with Manipur registration at the interstate checkpoint.

According to reports, the cash was turned over to the Income Tax Department, according to District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Shanavas C.

Speaking to ANI on Thursday, the District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner, Nagaland, Shanavas C, IAS, said, “It was the first time that such a huge seizure of cash has happened around the election time. While seizure of liquor, contraband or other items keeps happening every now and then, this is the first time that such huge volume of cash was seized.”

Shanavas added that according to the Election Commission of India’s rules any seizure of more than Rs 10 lakhs must be reported. The state surveillance team had apprehended the woman at around 2.30 pm on Wednesday evening. They discovered stacks of cash.

The Income Tax team was notified as a result and it was discovered that the cash that had been seized totaled Rs. 1.4 crores.
