Nagaland’s Noklak Town and Bay of Bengal Experience Earthquakes

Northeast Desk, 1st September: A mild earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale struck Noklak town in Nagaland early this morning, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The tremor occurred at 3:36 am, with the epicenter located in the Noklak area at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The NCS confirmed the details on the microblogging platform X, stating, “EQ of M: 3.0, On: 01/09/2024 03:36:39 IST, Lat: 26.24 N, Long: 95.03 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Noklak, Nagaland.”

On the same day, a more significant earthquake of 5.1 magnitude was recorded in the Bay of Bengal. This quake struck at 9:12 am at a depth of 10 kilometers. The NCS reported the event, noting the coordinates as Lat: 8.27 N and Long: 91.67 E.

“EQ of M: 5.1. On: 01/09/2024 09:12:50 IST, Lat: 8.27 N, Long: 91.67 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Bay of Bengal,” the NCS shared on X.
