Nagaland’s Rising People’s Party Criticizes Assam Chief Minister’s Remarks on NEDA’s Electoral Losses
Northeast Desk, 8th June: The Rising People’s Party (RPP) in Nagaland has strongly criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his recent remarks blaming Christians for the North-East Democratic Alliance’s (NEDA) failure to secure any seats in Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Manipur.
In a scathing response, the RPP condemned Sarma’s consistent targeting of Christians and found it hypocritical that he now attributes NEDA’s electoral losses to them. The party emphasized that voters, irrespective of their religious affiliations, make informed decisions based on various factors.
Highlighting instances such as Hindu Meiteis in Inner Manipur voting for Congress due to dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Modi’s policies, the RPP argued that attributing electoral outcomes solely to religious demographics is shortsighted and disrespectful to voters’ intelligence.
Furthermore, the RPP criticized Sarma for his undignified behavior and coarse language, which they believe undermines the dignity of the Chief Minister’s office. They reminded Sarma of the Nagas’ magnanimity in overlooking past incidents, urging him to conduct himself with greater decorum.
The party also noted similar instances where other parties, like JDU Nagaland and NDPP, have blamed external factors for electoral setbacks, suggesting that such scapegoating insults the intelligence of voters.
In conclusion, the RPP hinted that with NEDA’s electoral failures, the chief ministers of Nagaland and Meghalaya might find relief from Sarma’s overbearing attitude, hoping for a more respectful and constructive dialogue in the future.
