Nagaland’s Vision 2047: Deputy CM T R Zeliang Outlines Path for Inclusive Growth and Cultural Preservation

Kohima, Nagaland – At a state-level consultative meeting for the NEC Vision Plan 2047, Deputy Chief Minister T R Zeliang presented an ambitious roadmap aimed at achieving sustainable, inclusive growth in Nagaland by 2047.

The meeting, hosted in collaboration with North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi), the North Eastern Council (NEC), and the Ministry of DoNER, focused on strategies to foster a vibrant economy that respects Nagaland’s cultural heritage while promoting socio-economic development.

Key Goals for 2047:
• Economic Growth with Cultural Integrity: Zeliang underscored the importance of intertwining economic progress with cultural preservation to create a future that benefits all communities in Nagaland.
• Modernizing Agriculture: Highlighting “Viksit Bharat” as the goal, he advocated for advanced agricultural practices, organic farming, and improved food security, proposing infrastructure like irrigation systems and cold storage to boost productivity and export potential.
• Infrastructure Development: Zeliang called for enhanced road networks and expanded air, rail, and water transport systems to improve rural-urban connectivity. He also requested NEC’s support for warehouse and cold storage facilities at transport terminals.
• Tourism and Cultural Investments: Recognizing tourism’s potential, Zeliang proposed investments in cultural promotion, including modern exhibition spaces and initiatives to celebrate Nagaland’s cultural diversity as a means to drive economic growth.
• Agro-Industrial Growth: Citing Nagaland’s climate as ideal for fruit and vegetable cultivation, he highlighted opportunities in food processing industries to increase employment and revenue.
• Healthcare and Education Improvements: Zeliang emphasized the need for healthcare upgrades, including multi-specialty hospitals and climate-resilient facilities. He also called for enhanced infrastructure in higher education, including hostels, laboratories, and entrepreneurship programs.

A key issue raised was the delayed disbursement of funds for agricultural and infrastructural projects, a challenge in Nagaland’s monsoon-prone climate with limited working seasons. Zeliang urged the NEC to expedite fund releases to ensure efficient project execution during optimal seasons.

The NEC Vision Plan 2047 seeks to transform Nagaland into a developed and inclusive state, supporting a balanced approach to economic development, cultural preservation, and environmental sustainability.
