Nagaon Police Files Charge Sheet in Batadrava PS Arson
Guwahati: A charge sheet has been submitted by the Nagaon Police in Assam in connection to the burning incident at Batadrava police station.
Nagaon Superintendent of Police (SP) Leena Doley made this announcement during a press conference on Saturday.
There are 23 people listed on the charging sheet as suspects in the arson.
The SP reported that 13 suspects are still at large while nine have been apprehended.
Doley said, “We have disputed the fast-track court’s decision to start the trial process. The purported jehadi connections to the incident are also the subject of an investigation. A few of the people detained are connected to various crimes.”
It should be mentioned that on May 21, following the death of a villager in police custody, an enraged mob attacked two on-duty police officers and set fire to the police station.
There was a huge uproar as many questioned the role of the police in the death of a detainee. Violence also broke out with reported injuries on both sides.
