Namsai Bolsters Flood Preparedness with Joint Training Initiative
Namsai’s District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and the 186 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have joined forces to conduct a crucial two-day training programme focused on the operation of outboard motors (OBMs) and dinghy boats, significantly enhancing the region’s readiness for potential monsoon floods.
The intensive training, held on May 14th and 15th, was strategically designed to empower local first responders with essential water-based rescue skills.
A diverse group of participants, including Trainers of Trainers (ToTs), dedicated Aapda Mitra volunteers, proactive community members, and personnel from the local police force – all vital in disaster response – actively engaged in the comprehensive programme. The curriculum seamlessly integrated theoretical knowledge with practical application in the operation of critical rescue equipment.
The initial day of the training provided a thorough grounding in the operational nuances of OBMs and dinghies, emphasizing stringent safety protocols, essential maintenance procedures, and fundamental flood rescue techniques. Building upon this foundation, the second day saw participants put their learning into action at the Allubari Ghat in Chowkham. This hands-on session involved practical exercises in launching and skillfully navigating the boats within realistic, simulated flood environments.
This collaborative initiative underscores the DDMA’s broader strategic commitment to fortifying local response mechanisms and proactively mitigating risks associated with flood emergencies. Authorities have emphasized that this training represents a pivotal advancement in strengthening the district’s frontline capabilities as the anticipated monsoon season draws nearer.
