Nandita’s Murderer tries to snatch Police weapon, Injured in Police Fire
Guwahati: With the Assam Police taking strict measures against criminals as well as accused who try to flee police custody, another encounter took place on Saturday where the prime accused of the Nandita Saikia was injured.
The prime accused identified to be Rinku Sharma had allegedly tried to flee police custody on Saturday night and in order to prevent the accused from escaping the police resorted to controlled firing.
The accused was hit in the knee and was injured. The police immediately shifted him to a hospital.
Assam’s Special Director General of Police, GP Singh in a tweet wrote, “One Rinku Sarma, accused of killing Nandita Saikia of Moridhol College Dhemaji tried to snatch @DhemajiPolice team weapon this evening and escape custody. He was injured in police firing in self defence and to prevent escape.”
It may be mentioned that Nandita who was “brutally” attacked with a machete died on August 25.
The girl who belonged to Assam’s Lakhimpur was allegedly attacked by Rintu Sarma. Sarma had not only attacked Nandita, but also one of her classmates. It was reported that he attacked Nandita because she had rejected his “marriage proposal”.
Nandita was on the ventilator at a private hospital in Dibrugarh and was admitted in a severe condition. They were earlier taken to the Dibrugarh Medical College and Hospital but were then referred to the private hospital.
A video clip of the entire incident is also doing rounds on social media and the accused is seen confessing his crime on the video while holding the machete with blood still dripping from it.
