Nation Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on Martyrs’ Day
Guwahati: Floral tributes were paid at Raj Ghat in New Delhi on Monday in honour of the “Father of the Nation,” Mahatma Gandhi.
The Sarva Dharma Prarthana Sabha was held at Raj Ghat and many influential people attended, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla and Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena.
The Indian government proclaimed January 30 to be Martyrs’ Day in remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi’s sacrifice and to honour his legacy. The day often referred to as Shaheed Diwas, is held to remember Mahatma Gandhi who was killed on this day in 1948.
PM Modi stated on Twitter that the nation’s determination to work toward a developed India will continue to be strengthened by the martyrs’ sacrifices.
“I bow to Bapu on his Punya Tithi and recall his profound thoughts. I also pay homage to all those who have been martyred in the service of our nation. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten and will keep strengthening our resolve to work for a developed India,” PM Modi tweeted.
Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister too paid Gandhi respect and stated that Gandhi motivated the nation to become Atmanirbhar. The road Gandhi set out for achieving world peace, according to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, is still valid today.
In a homage to the Mahatma, BJP national president JP Nadda stated that through truth and non-violence the Mahatma opened the way for peace and the prosperity of humanity.
At the Janata Bhawan in Guwahati, floral wreaths were also laid to honour Mahatma Gandhi today as part of the Martyrs’ Day ceremonies. Along with other dignitaries, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Environment and Forest Department, Assam, laid floral tributes. The armed forces personnel blow bugles sounding the Last Post and a two minute silence in memory of the Indian Martyrs.
