Nation pays tribute to Sardar Patel on National Unity Day

Guwahati: The country observes National Unity Day on Monday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first deputy prime minister and home minister.

Tributes were paid to the well-known Indian freedom fighter on this special occasion. Numerous events, including “Unity Run,” have also been planned across the nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid respect to Sardar Patel at the Statue of Unity On Monday morning in Gujarat’s Kevadiya.

On the occasion of Patel’s birth, the President Droupadi Murmu, the Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Vinai Kumar Saxena and the Union Minister Meenakashi Lekhi also paid tribute to him.

In lieu of the event, PM Modi also attended the “National Unity Day” Parade at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat.

The chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma flagged off a “Run for Unity” from Guwahati’s Nehru Stadium. In honour of Sardar Patel, thousands of people participated in the walk.

Notably, the Indian government instituted National Unity Day in 2014.

As a member of the Indian National Congress, Sardar Patel was crucial to the nation’s fight for independence.

The political unity of India and the peaceful accession of the princely states to the Indian Union are credited to Sardar Patel’s strategies.
