National Herald Case: Congress to Hold PCs Across Country tomorrow

Guwahati: The Congress will hold press conferences around the country on June 12 in response to ED summonses issued to party president Sonia Gandhi and her son and senior leader Rahul Gandhi in a money laundering case involving the National Herald newspaper.

Gandhi has been called by the ED to appear before its investigators on June 8, while her son and former party head, Rahul Gandhi, has been summoned on June 13.

However, after Sonia Gandhi requested a three-week extension, the federal government issued a new summons to her on June 23.

According to reports, The Congress president has contacted the ED because she has failed to test negative for the virus. She has emphasised the physicians’ recommendation to take it easy.

On June 2, Sonia Gandhi tested positive for Covid-19 and was scheduled to appear in front of the ED on June 8.

It should be noted that a case was recently filed to investigate possible financial irregularities in the Young Indian daily, which is owned by the party.

Associated Journals Limited (AJL) publishes the National Herald, which is owned by Young Indian Pvt Limited.

As part of the inquiry, the CBI recently questioned top Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Pawan Bansal.

The alleged misuse of assets worth over Rs 2,000 crore in an equity transaction is the subject of the National Herald lawsuit.

According to sources, the ED questioned former Union minister Pawan Bansal and senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge in April as part of the money laundering investigation into the National Herald case.
