National Herald Case: Sonia Gandhi Arrives at ED Office For 2nd Round Of Interrogation

Guwahati: Sonia Gandhi, the acting president of the Congress arrived at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Delhi on Tuesday for the second round of interrogation in the case involving money laundering and the National Herald newspaper.

She was accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, her daughter.

The head of the Congress was questioned by the ED on July 21 for almost two hours. Sonia Gandhi reportedly answered more than two dozen questions before requesting to go home to take her medication.

On July 26, ED had sent the leader of the Congress a new summons to participate in the investigation into the National Herald affair. She was initially called by the investigation agency on Monday, but it was postponed by a day.

Meanwhile, the ED summons to the party’s temporary leader sparked vehement protests from Congress leaders and supporters across the nation. The Delhi Police detained up to 75 Congress members, including Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, for protesting the party leader’s interrogation.

Senior Congress leaders including P Chidambaram, Ajay Maken, Manickam Tagore, KC Venugopal, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhry, Shashi Tharoor, Sachin Pilot, and Harish Rawat. Ashok Gehlot, K Suresh were among those detained.

The state Congress organisation in Assam protested the ED’s summoning of Sonia Gandhi outside Rajib Bhawan in Guwahati.

The Congress workers attempted to breach the barricades while security personnel dragged the employees to apprehend them. Other party leaders detained during the rally included Bhupen Bora and Angkita Dutta.

Rahul Gandhi was questioned by the ED in the matter last month for a total of five days.
