Nationwide Agitation Declared by AIMPLB Against Proposed Waqf Bill
National: The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has solidified its resolve to launch a nationwide agitation, directly responding to the contentious Waqf Amendment Bill.
This decision follows their substantial demonstration held in Delhi on March 17, where the board voiced its initial dissent against the proposed legislation.
Mohd Vaquar Uddin Latifi, Office Secretary of AIMPLB, released an official statement confirming the board’s unwavering commitment to opposing the bill. He articulated that the board considers the legislation “controversial, discriminatory, and damaging,” necessitating a unified and robust response from the community.
SQR Ilyas, the spokesperson for AIMPLB and Convener of the Action Committee Against the Waqf Bill, conveyed gratitude to various Muslim organizations, civil society groups, and leaders from Dalit, Adivasi, OBC, and other minority communities for their pledged solidarity and support in this endeavor.
The 31-member Action Committee, formed by AIMPLB, has resolved to employ all constitutional, legal, and democratic avenues to challenge the bill’s implementation. As a preliminary step in their planned agitation, the board has scheduled extensive protest sit-ins outside state assemblies in Patna on March 26 and Vijayawada on March 29.
The statement detailed that senior AIMPLB leaders, alongside representatives from national and state-level religious and social organizations, will actively engage in these demonstrations. Furthermore, leaders from civil society, prominent figures from minority communities, and key representatives from Dalit, Adivasi, and OBC segments have confirmed their participation in the planned protests.
AIMPLB has reaffirmed its position that the bill presents a grave threat to Waqf properties and the fundamental rights of the Muslim community. The board has also indicated its readiness to escalate its opposition if necessary, signaling a long-term commitment to safeguarding the interests of the community.
