Nationwide Agricultural Drive ‘Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ Launched to Boost Farm Productivity
Agartala: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has unveiled a comprehensive national campaign, the ‘Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’, aiming to significantly enhance agricultural productivity across India.
The announcement, made during a pivotal video conference with state agriculture ministers, detailed the initiative’s operational timeline from May 29 to June 12.
The campaign’s core objectives, as articulated by Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, who participated in the meeting, center on a multi-pronged approach to agricultural development. Key focuses include increasing overall agricultural output and resource efficiency, substantially elevating farmer incomes, expanding food grain storage capacities, reducing operational costs associated with agricultural practices, ensuring national food security, and providing farmers with access to high-quality seeds and fertilizers.
This initiative emerges against the backdrop of record-breaking agricultural production nationwide, with the government seeking to capitalize on this momentum through a coordinated, multi-level governmental strategy. Tripura has committed to full implementation of the campaign across its Gram Panchayats, leveraging resources from various departments. State and district-level coordinators will be deployed, working in tandem with scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs).
The campaign’s scope extends beyond traditional agriculture, incorporating support from fisheries and horticulture departments to ensure a holistic approach to rural development. Minister Nath emphasized the campaign’s overarching goal, stating, “The main important matter is food. And that is why Prime Minister Narendra Modi, through the Agriculture Minister, wants to give a message to improve agriculture and boost farmers’ income more than double.”
A critical component of the ‘Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ involves widespread dissemination of information regarding both central and state government agricultural schemes. This aims to empower farmers with knowledge of available resources and support programs, enabling them to maximize their productivity and income.
