Nationwide Bharat Bandh Called by Reservation Bachao Sangharsh Samiti in Protest of SC/ST Reservation Ruling

Guwahati, 20th August: The Reservation Bachao Sangharsh Samiti has announced a Bharat Bandh on August 21, mobilizing support from SC/ST communities across Rajasthan and beyond. The bandh is in response to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling allowing states to create sub-categories within the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) to prioritize reservations for those most in need.

The Supreme Court’s decision on August 1 has ignited widespread concern among SC/ST groups, leading to a collective call for the bandh as a form of protest. These communities argue that the ruling could undermine the fundamental rights of SC/ST populations by potentially diluting the benefits of reservation.

With the bandh approaching, law enforcement agencies have been placed on high alert. Police forces across all districts are intensifying their presence to ensure public order is maintained during the protest. Senior police officials have issued directives to their teams to be vigilant and ready to respond swiftly to any disturbances.

In anticipation of possible unrest, a high-level meeting was convened by senior civil and police officials to discuss security measures. The meeting, which included divisional commissioners, district magistrates, and senior police officers, focused on strategies to prevent violence and ensure the safety of citizens during the day of the bandh.

As the nation braces for the impact of the Bharat Bandh, authorities are taking every precaution to avoid disruptions while respecting the right to peaceful protest.
