Navjot Singh Sidhu resigns as Panjab Congress Chief
Amritsar: A Day after Congress President Sonia Gandhi has aske the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Presidents of five states where the party humiliating losses, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned from his post on Wednesday.
Sharing a copy of his resignation letter on Twitter he wrote, “As desired by the Congress President I have sent my resignation.”
It may be mentioned that the resignations were requested to “ease the reorganisation” of the state Congress units, said to Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.
“In order to assist PCC reorganisation, Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi has invited the PCC Presidents of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa, and Manipur to submit their resignations,” he stated.
After a meeting on Sunday where the CWC brainstormed about the reasons for the party’s failure in the recent round of state assembly elections, Sonia Gandhi fired the five Congress PCC presidents. The Congress was unable to reclaim control of the four BJP-ruled states, and Punjab was lost to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
