Guwahati: In a dramatic show of political dominance, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has already secured 325 Panchayat seats unopposed, ahead of any voting in the ongoing rural elections. Describing it as an “unprecedented mandate,” Sarma hailed the development as a resounding endorsement of the NDA’s leadership and governance model.
According to the Chief Minister’s statement, 37 Zila Parishad seats — comprising 35 won by BJP and 2 by its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) — along with 288 Anchalik Panchayat seats — 259 by BJP and 29 by AGP — were secured uncontested following the closure of nomination withdrawal. The announcement, made via social media, underscores a landslide wave for the ruling alliance at the grassroots level.
“This reflects the immense trust and overwhelming love that the people of Assam have for the NDA and for our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji,” Sarma declared, emphasizing the people’s faith in the current leadership.
Projecting further success, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that the NDA’s final tally would climb even higher once the rest of the votes are counted. He extended heartfelt thanks to the people of Assam and lauded the dedication of party workers whose relentless grassroots efforts he credited for this early victory.
The sweep in Panchayat seats — widely viewed as a bellwether for broader electoral sentiment — positions the NDA strongly not just for the remaining phases of the Panchayat elections but also for the upcoming Assembly and national polls. The wave of unopposed wins in institutions central to rural governance indicates a tightening grip of the BJP and its allies over Assam’s political landscape.
