NDA’s Presidential Candidate Droupadi Murmu Visits Kamakhya Temple

Guwahati: Droupadi Murmu, a candidate for the NDA presidential nomination visited to the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati on Friday to seek blessings from Maa Kamakhya before the July 18 presidential election.

She arrived in Guwahati on Tuesday last and visited Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Nagaland on Wednesday and met lawmakers to seek support for the upcoming elections.

Accompanied by Union ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pratima Bhowmick, Assam MP Rajdeep Roy and BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra, Murmu arrived in Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh from Lilabari in Assam’s North Lakhimpur district.

She was welcomed by the chief minister Pema Khandu, his deputy Chowna Mein, the BJP state president Biyuram Wahge, and other party officials at the Raj Bhavan helipad.

In addition to the three Independent MLAs, Tapir Gao, a member of the Lok Sabha, Nabam Rebia, a member of the Rajya Sabha, and legislators from the BJP, NPP, and JD(U) also attended the closed-door meeting with Murmu.

Then Murmu and others with her boarded a special aeroplane and travelled to Shillong in Meghalaya.

She was met at the airport by Conrad K. Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya, Metbah Lyngdoh, the speaker of the assembly, Sanbor Shullai, AL Hek, and E. Mawrie, the state head of the BJP, according to a PTI report.

She met behind closed doors with lawmakers from several parties at a resort. At the gathering, she was also honoured with traditional tribal attire.

According to Sangma, Murmu will serve as the president of a “New India.”

After that, she travelled to Nagaland to meet with lawmakers from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Murmu met with the Assam MPs on Thursday after arriving back in Guwahati late that evening.

MPs and legislators of the ruling BJP, its allies the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL) were present at the meeting. AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal said his party will also support Murmu.
