NDFB leader Ranjan Daimary Exonerated In 1992 Udalguri Massacre Case
Guwahati: Ranjan Daimary, the chairman of the now-disbanded National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) was cleared on Friday by a TADA (Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act) court in Guwahati in a case involving the 1992 murders of six individuals in Udalguri of Assam.
According to the FIR filed in the Udalguri police station in 1992 by a man named Chabilal Sharma, which served as the basis for the case number (17/1992), militants opened fire indiscriminately killing five individuals there and critically wounded another who eventually passed away.
The police then prepared a charge sheet against Daimary and others.
The former NDFB head was detained in a different case in 2010 and he was subsequently saw detained in the massacre case in 2011.
Daimary alongside another accused Dhamakanta Bodo in the case have been facing trial in the case, while other accused have either died or have not been arrested yet.
It needs to be mentioned that Daimary and nine other defendants in the 2008 Assam serial explosions case which resulted in 88 fatalities are currently serving life sentences.
