NDMA Conducts Mock Earthquake Drill in 3 NE States

Guwahati: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) organized a Multi-State Mock Exercise on Earthquake in nine district of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Nagaland on Thursday.

Five NDRF Teams with a canine squad, officers and the commandant of the 1st Battalion National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Sh HPS Kandari, actively participated in the simulated practise as experts.

Five teams from the 1st Bn NDRF participated actively as disaster experts in nine districts including the Assam district headquarters in Bongaigaon, Guwahati, Haflong (Dima Hasao), Kokrajhar and Silchar.

The preparation for this Earthquake Mock Exercise required four to five days and included scenario-based practical exercises involving stakeholders, community awareness campaigns and tabletop exercises.

The goal of these fake exercises was to bring together all the stakeholders in the State/District in question and guarantee smooth coordination during the conduct of rescue and relief activities. Mock exercises are of utmost importance for emergency preparedness.

The ability to respond in the event of a disaster is developed through extensive training and mock drills.

On this occasion Sh. H P S Kandari, Commandant 1st Bn NDRF acted as Chief Observer of the Mega Event and said “Disaster management is the key to sustainable development in North East India. Community is a very important element in disaster management, if we dream of a disaster resistant India for a stable and secure society, the community has to be sensitized and aware to deal with the basics of disaster management. The National Disaster Response Force is on its mission with the objective ApadaSevasadaivSarvatra”.
