NDPP-BJP to Continue 40-20 Seat Sharing Alliance in Nagaland Assembly Elections 2023
Guwahati: The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have resolved to run in the Nagaland assembly elections in 2023 under the same seat-sharing system as in 2018.
The NDPP will run for 40 seats, while the BJP will run for 20 seats, according to a joint statement released by the two parties.
According to the joint statement, the leadership of the two parties led by BJP President Shri JP Nadda and Chief Minister Shri Neiphiu Rio of the NDPP have mutually agreed to continue the alliance with the seat sharing in the forthcoming elections to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly of 40:20, wherein the NDPP will contest in 40 seats and the BJP will contest in 20 seats. There will be no friendly contest in any constituency.”
The BJP-NDPP coalition was established in 2018. The NDPP ran in the 2018 Assembly elections from 40 seats, while the BJP ran in 20 seats. PM Narendra Modi began the campaign in February 2018, and on March 8 of that year, the alliance won a resounding victory.
A core group made up of representatives from the two parties will decide on seats and the election strategy. The joint statement issued on Tuesday was signed by Nalin Kohli, BJP Nagaland in-charge and NDPP general secretary Abu Mehta.
