NDPP Leader James Kuotsu and Former BJP Leader Kidongam Panmei Switch Allegiance to Congress
Northeast Desk, 12th April: In a significant development ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) leader James Kuotsu and former BJP leader Kidongam Panmei have joined the Congress party in Nagaland. The duo made their formal entry into the Congress fold in the presence of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee president S Supongmeren Jamir.
According to a press statement issued by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, Kidongam Panmei, a former executive member of the Ex-Service Cell and former General Secretary of the ST Morcha of the BJP state unit, along with James Kuotsu, decided to join the Congress voluntarily. They cited their support for Rahul Gandhi’s Pan India Movement aimed at safeguarding the secular and democratic principles of the nation, which they believe are under threat from the BJP-led government.
The NPCC expressed a warm welcome to the new entrants, wishing them success as they embark on a new political journey aligned with the progressive and secular ideals of the Indian National Congress.
The timing of their entry into the Congress fold holds significance as Nagaland gears up for polling in the lone parliamentary constituency on April 19. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4.
In the previous Lok Sabha elections, the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) emerged victorious in 2019, while the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) secured victory in 2014.
