NEIAFMR in Pasighat Leads the Charge in Advancing Traditional Medicine in Arunachal Pradesh

Pasighat – The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda & Folk Medicine Research (NEIAFMR) has emerged as a key player in promoting traditional medicine in the region. During a press conference on October 9, Dr. Robindra Teron, the institute’s director, detailed the significant achievements of the Ministry of Ayush and its commitment to indigenous healing practices.

As an autonomous body under the Ministry of Ayush, NEIAFMR is dedicated to documenting and preserving the rich tapestry of traditional healing methods unique to Arunachal Pradesh. Dr. Teron highlighted the institute’s focus on providing natural treatments while playing an active role in the research and development of traditional medicine.

During the briefing, Dr. Teron shared several notable accomplishments from the Ministry of Ayush’s first 100 days, emphasizing efforts to elevate traditional medicine on both national and international stages. These include forging partnerships with global health organizations such as the World Health Organization, as well as collaborations with countries like Vietnam and Malaysia.

The ministry has also introduced the “one herb one standard” initiative, aimed at standardizing herbal medicine quality across the country. Furthermore, specialized Ayush medicine stores have been established to enhance access to these traditional treatments. Dr. Teron noted that nearly 1,500 Ayushman Arogya Mandir facilities have undergone evaluation to improve healthcare delivery.

Highlighting national campaigns like Har Ghar AyurYog, Dr. Teron spoke about initiatives designed to promote wellness and holistic health, particularly among the elderly. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to integrate Ayush practices into mainstream healthcare, with provisions for their inclusion in the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme.

Dr. Teron credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav for their leadership and vision in advancing traditional Indian medicine systems. His remarks underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing health outcomes through the revival and promotion of indigenous knowledge, reinforcing the value of traditional medicine in contemporary healthcare frameworks.

As NEIAFMR continues its vital work, the institute stands at the forefront of a movement that seeks to harmonize traditional practices with modern health care, benefiting not just Arunachal Pradesh but potentially setting a precedent for other regions in India.
