Nepal SC Orders Release of Serial Killer Charles Sobhraj
Guwahati: French serial killer Charles Sobhraj who has been imprisoned for more than 20 years was ordered to be released by the Nepal Supreme Court on Wednesday.
The Serpent Killer or Bikini Killer, a French serial killer, has been let go due to his advanced age. He has been detained in Nepal since being accused of killing two American visitors.
Additionally, the court mandated that Sobhraj be deported within 15 days of his discharge.
The serial killer had before asked for a 75% reduction in his sentence.
According to The Kathmandu Post, he was sentenced to 21 years in prison in India for poisoning a French visitor and killing an Israeli.
In 2014, Sobhraj was given a 20-year prison sentence after being convicted responsible for the 1975 murder of Canadian tourist Laurent Carriere.
The French serial killer was apprehended in 2004 after being discovered for the first time in a casino in Kathmandu.
