NESO Urges PM Modi to Prevent Illegal Entries from Bangladesh Amid Political Turmoil
Guwahati, 7th August: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take immediate measures to prevent illegal entries into the North Eastern states from Bangladesh. NESO has also demanded that no Bangladeshi nationals be granted asylum or rehabilitation in the entire North East region.
In a statement, NESO emphasized the need for the Government of India to ensure strict and thorough monitoring of the border between North East India and Bangladesh to detect any attempted illegal migration. The student body highlighted that the continued influx of immigrants into the region has led to insecurity, agitations, riots, and clashes between foreigners and indigenous people.
“Such unabated flow of immigrants into the region thus led to insecurity, agitations, riots and clashes between these foreigners and the indigenous people. Therefore Sir, the NESO humbly seeks your immediate intervention to ensure that no illegal enters the North Eastern states from Bangladesh,” the statement read.
NESO also expressed concerns that the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh could lead to an exodus of its nationals into India, particularly affecting the Northeast region.
In related developments, BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chaudhary reviewed the operational preparedness along the Tripura-Bangladesh border following the political turmoil in the neighboring country. On Wednesday, August 7, Chaudhary, along with Additional DG Ravi Gandhi and other senior officers of the Border Security Force, held a meeting at the headquarters of the Tripura Frontier to assess the security arrangements along the international border.
Senior officials briefed the DG on the security measures in place along Tripura’s border with Bangladesh.
