This marks the second major bridge project over the Brahmaputra funded by the NDB, which previously financed the ongoing construction of the Guwahati-North Guwahati six-lane bridge.

  • Project Name: Assam Bridge Project-II
  • Construction Mode: Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC)
  • Key Components: Viaducts, approaches, and river training works
  • Bridge Length: 12.2 km

The Assam government will provide Rs 6.77 billion as counterpart funding for this ambitious project. Set to be completed within four years, the project will be executed by the Assam Public Works Roads Department (APWRD).

This new bridge is expected to significantly enhance transport infrastructure in the region, offering a direct connection between the northern and southern parts of the Guwahati Metropolitan Area (GMA). It aims to improve overall connectivity, streamline regional and urban traffic, and link the international airport to the industrial zones around Sualkuchi.

The project underscores the NDB’s ongoing commitment to fostering regional development through strategic infrastructure investments. Established by the BRICS states, the NDB continues to support projects that drive economic growth and improve quality of life for local communities.

Speaking on the project’s approval, an NDB representative noted, “The Assam Bridge Project-II is a testament to our dedication to enhancing connectivity and supporting sustainable development in the region. This project will play a crucial role in boosting economic activities and improving transport links for the people of Assam.”

With construction set to begin soon, the Assam Bridge Project-II promises to be a transformative development for the region, reflecting the strong partnership between the NDB and the Assam government in driving forward critical infrastructure projects.
