New district inaugurated in Meghalaya
Guwahati: Eastern West Khasi Hills, the 12the district in Meghalaya was inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday.
The new district was inaugurated with its headquarters in Mairang. At the time of the inauguration CM was accompanied by the Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Metbah Lyngdoh and other Cabinet ministers and MLAs
The new district comprises Mairang and Mawthadraishan C&RD blocks.
Sangma further stated that the new district will bring the administration closer to the people as he inaugurated it in the Eastern West Khasi Hills.
The new district was a long-felt hope and desire of the people, according to the Chief Minister, and the administration had to consider it after screening several aspects.
“The new district was constructed exclusively on the basis of specific parameters, which had put the region at the bottom of all developmental operations,” he added.
It may be mentioned that the cabinet felt that since the region falls in the eastern part of West Khasi Hills, it should be named as Eastern West Khasi Hills
