New Tactical Substitute Rule To Be Introduced In IPL 2023

Guwahati: The Indian Premier League has declared that the 2023 edition of the competition will permit tactical substitutions. The regulation was successfully tested in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India’s top domestic T20 cricket competition before being officially announced.

According to this rule, a team may allow any player of its choice and replace that player with a substitute from the bench. The Australian Big Bash League, which allowed “X-Factors,” was where this was first introduced. Teams were permitted to select one substitute to replace a member of the starting XI at the midpoint of each inning.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which oversees the IPL, has not provided any information about the terms of the rule, although it is anticipated that they would be explained over the next weeks before the mini-auction for the 2022 season.
