Newborn Girls in Kushinagar Named “Sindoor” in Tribute to Army Operation

National: In a poignant display of solidarity and remembrance, seventeen baby girls born at the Kushinagar Medical College on May 10th and 11th have been given the name “Sindoor” by their families. This collective naming serves as a heartfelt tribute to the Indian Army’s Operation Sindoor, which was launched following the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam last month.

Operation Sindoor, conducted on May 7th, targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. This military action came days after a brutal attack in the Baisaran meadow of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district resulted in the loss of 26 civilian lives and left several others injured.

Dr. RK Shahi, the principal of Kushinagar Medical College, confirmed this unique occurrence. He stated that seventeen newborn girls, born within a 48-hour period, have all been named Sindoor by their respective families.

For many of these families, the chosen name carries a significance that extends beyond mere symbolism. Archana Shahi, a new mother, expressed that naming her daughter Sindoor was a direct tribute to the unwavering courage demonstrated by the Indian armed forces in the wake of the Pahalgam tragedy.

“Following the Pahalgam attack, the lives of numerous married women were tragically altered as they lost their husbands. The Indian Army’s response through Operation Sindoor was commendable, and we feel immense pride in it. For us now, Sindoor is more than just a word; it embodies a powerful emotion,” Archana Shahi explained. Her husband, Ajit Shahi, added that the name was decided upon even before their daughter’s arrival, emphasizing that “this word is an enduring inspiration for us.”

Similar sentiments resonated across various villages in Kushinagar. Madan Gupta, a resident of Padrauna, shared that his daughter-in-law Kajal was deeply moved by the army’s decisive action and desired to honor it in a lasting manner through her child’s name. “This way,” Gupta said, “we will not only keep the memory of this operation alive but also celebrate the day our granddaughter was born.”

Vyasmuni, from Bhathahi Babu village, articulated his reasoning for choosing the name Sindoor for his newborn daughter, stating, “When my daughter grows up, she will understand the profound meaning of this name and conduct herself as a devoted woman for our Mother India.” Priyanka Devi, also from Padrauna, joined the collective gesture, naming her child in homage to the military operation, according to the medical college.

While the headlines surrounding Operation Sindoor may eventually fade, these seventeen newborns carrying the name “Sindoor” will serve as enduring reminders – not only of a moment marked by grief and retaliation but also as symbols of identity, resilience, and unwavering national pride for their families and community.
