NIA Arrests Key Accused in Manipur Conspiracy at Imphal Airport

Northeast Desk, 7th June: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made a significant breakthrough in its investigation into a transnational conspiracy aimed at escalating violence in Manipur and spreading terror across northeastern states. At Imphal Airport, the NIA arrested Thongminthang Haokip, also known as Thangboi Haokip or Roger, a key accused linked to the Kuki National Front-Military Council (KNF-MC).

Roger’s apprehension, carried out under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, is part of an extensive investigation initiated by the NIA last year. The investigation focuses on a conspiracy orchestrated by Kuki and Zomi insurgents, collaborating with terrorist organizations in northeastern states and neighboring Myanmar.

According to the NIA statement, the objective of the conspiracy was to exploit ethnic unrest in the region and wage war against the Indian government through violent attacks. Roger’s active involvement in attacks on security forces at multiple locations, along with his connections to insurgent groups in Myanmar, underscores the gravity of the situation.

Roger’s meetings with leaders of PDF/KNF-B (Myanmar) to procure arms, ammunition, and explosives reveal the extent of coordination between insurgent groups across borders. He confessed to participating in armed attacks against security forces and rival groups in Manipur, highlighting his affiliation with KNF-MC and United Tribal Volunteers (UTV).

The NIA’s ongoing investigations aim to apprehend other individuals involved in the conspiracy, preventing terrorist outfits from disrupting peace and stability in the region. This development is crucial amidst ethnic strife in Manipur, which has posed significant challenges to security forces and resulted in loss of lives.

The arrest of Thongminthang Haokip represents a significant step towards dismantling terrorist networks and ensuring the safety and security of the northeastern states.
