NIA Charges Mumbai Resident in Indian Navy Spying Case

National Desk, 17th May: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has escalated its probe into the Indian Navy spying case by pressing charges against Amaan Salim Shaikh, a resident of Mumbai, Maharashtra. Amaan has been identified as a key accused in case RC-02/2023/NIA/HYD, which revolves around a conspiracy orchestrated by Pakistani intelligence agents to extract sensitive information from Indian Navy personnel.

In a supplementary chargesheet filed at the NIA Special Court in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, Amaan faces allegations under the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The NIA, which took over the investigation on 5th June 2023, uncovered Amaan’s collaboration with a suspected Pakistani agent named Usman. His involvement included executing tasks assigned by Pakistani intelligence operatives and receiving payments, including through crypto channels, from individuals associated with Pakistani intelligence networks.

This development follows the chargesheeting of two other suspects on 6th November 2023 in connection with the same case. The investigation, initiated at the Counter Intelligence Cell in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, remains ongoing as authorities continue to delve deeper into the network and activities of those implicated in the alleged espionage operation.
