NIA Files Chargesheet Against Mizoram Trio in Northeast Arms Trafficking Case

Aizawl: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has lodged a supplementary chargesheet against three individuals hailing from Mizoram. The charges pertain to their alleged involvement in the trafficking and distribution of illicit arms, ammunition, and explosives, reportedly destined for insurgent groups operating in India’s Northeast.

The accused, identified as Vanlaldailova, Lalmuanpuia, and Lalrinchhunga alias Albert, were apprehended on December 6, 2024. Their arrests followed synchronized search operations conducted at their respective residences, which led to the recovery of a significant cache of illegal weapons and explosive materials.

As per NIA disclosures, the trio are accused of playing crucial roles in abetting militant activities and fuelling ethnic unrest in Manipur. This region has recently witnessed a pronounced escalation in violence. The consignments of weapons and explosives, allegedly facilitated by the accused, were reportedly supplied to various insurgent factions active in the violence-affected zones.

The ongoing investigation has brought to light that the accused were active collaborators within the illegal arms network. They are deemed instrumental in exacerbating tensions and undermining peace initiatives across the northeastern belt.

The chargesheet has been formally filed under pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the Arms Act. NIA officials have reaffirmed their unwavering resolve to dismantle organized crime and terrorism networks operating in the region.
