NIA raids 10 states including Assam, Tripura in human trafficking cases
Guwahati, 8th November: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has conducted coordinated raids across eight states and two Union Territories on Wednesday as part of its ongoing investigations into human trafficking cases, according to reliable sources.
The search operations took place in the regions of Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, Puducherry, Rajasthan, and Jammu and Kashmir.
While the specific details of these operations are yet to be disclosed, they are connected to NIA’s efforts to combat human trafficking with international implications.
Notably, last month, the NIA arrested Mohammad Imran Khan in Tamil Nadu regarding the unlawful stay of certain Sri Lankan nationals in India. Whether the recent raids are directly related to this case remains uncertain.
Further information about the ongoing raids will be made available in due course. It’s worth mentioning that the NIA has a dedicated unit specializing in the investigation of human trafficking cases with international dimensions. In 2022, the agency probed cases involving the trafficking of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi Muslims into India, often facilitated by the use of forged documents.
