NIA Serves Notice in Tripura as Part of Multi-State Crackdown on Al-Qaeda-Linked Activities

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has issued a notice to a resident of Sepahijala District, Tripura, summoning him to appear at the agency’s office in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on November 21. The notice follows a series of coordinated raids conducted by the NIA across multiple states, aimed at dismantling an alleged Al-Qaeda-linked network suspected of supporting terrorist activities in India.

NIA officials confirmed to India Today NE that the agency’s actions target the influence of certain Bangladeshi nationals allegedly affiliated with Al-Qaeda, who are suspected of promoting extremist activities within India. The crackdown on Monday included simultaneous searches at nine locations across Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka, Bihar, and Jammu and Kashmir.

In Tripura, an NIA team raided the residence of Kauchar Ahamed in Tetaiya Mura, located within the Sonamura sub-division of Sepahijala District. Ahamed was not home during the raid, leading NIA officials to coordinate with the Jatrapur Police Station. Later, Ahamed returned and, following questioning, received a formal notice to appear at the NIA office in Ahmedabad.

In an official statement, the NIA revealed that the nationwide searches yielded a substantial amount of evidence, including incriminating documents, detailed banking records, mobile phones, and other digital devices linked to suspected terror funding. The agency stated that these raids are part of an ongoing investigation related to a 2023 case involving Al-Qaeda’s efforts to radicalize youth and propagate violent extremism in India.

According to NIA findings, the suspects raided are believed to be sympathizers of a Bangladesh-based Al-Qaeda network. The operation follows a chargesheet filed by the NIA last November, implicating five individuals, including four Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian. The accused had reportedly used forged documents to operate covertly within India, allegedly collecting and transferring funds for Al-Qaeda while spreading radical ideology among vulnerable youth.

The NIA emphasized that the investigation is a crucial step toward neutralizing Al-Qaeda’s influence within India and preventing the spread of extremist propaganda. This multi-state operation reflects the agency’s intensified efforts to dismantle terror networks and safeguard national security.
