Night Watchman Found Charred to Death in Guwahati’s Beltola; Police Probe Underway
Guwahati: Tragedy struck the Beltola area of Guwahati on Monday morning as a middle-aged man was found completely charred inside his home. The deceased, identified as Naresh Chahani, was a long-serving night watchman in the Basistha Chariali locality.
According to preliminary reports, the fire is believed to have broken out during the night while Chahani was asleep. The circumstances under which the blaze erupted remain unclear, raising concerns over whether it was accidental or deliberate.
Local residents discovered the incident in the early morning hours and immediately alerted authorities. Officials from the Basistha Police Station arrived at the site and recovered Chahani’s severely burnt body.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the origin of the fire and to ascertain if any foul play was involved. The police have not ruled out any possibilities and are awaiting forensic inputs to shed light on the cause of the fatal incident.
