Nine Candidates File Nominations for Assam’s 11-Dholai (SC) By-Election

Cachar, Assam – With the Assembly by-election for Assam’s 11-Dholai (SC) constituency on the horizon, nine candidates from Cachar district have formally submitted their nominations, setting the stage for a diverse and competitive race. The mix includes party-backed nominees and independent candidates, all vying for the legislative seat.

Dr. Dhruba Jyoti Hazarika, the Returning Officer, confirmed the nominations, which include prominent candidates from leading national parties. Representing the Indian National Congress (INC) is Dhrubajyoti Purkayastha, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Nihar Ranjan Das, reflecting the strong presence of national parties in the constituency.

Adding to the lineup, Gour Chandra Das of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) offers a left-wing choice for voters. Six independent candidates—Amiya Kanti Das, Amalendu Das, Raju Das, Parimal Das, Dilip Kumar Dhubi, and Dhiraj Das—have also entered the race, each seeking to resonate with local voters through independent platforms.

Dr. Hazarika noted that all nominations, including official documentation such as Forms A and B for party candidates, will undergo detailed scrutiny on October 28 to confirm procedural compliance. Candidates will have until 3 pm on October 30 to withdraw their nominations, after which the Returning Officer will assign official election symbols, finalizing the roster for the 11-Dholai (SC) by-polls.

This election promises to be a significant event, with each candidate aiming to address the unique needs and aspirations of the 11-Dholai constituency.
