Nitish Kumar Resigns as Bihar Chief Minister, Set to Form New Government with BJP Support
National Desk, 28th January: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar resigned on Sunday, bringing an end to his 18-month ruling alliance with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress. Anticipating the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he is expected to take oath as the new Chief Minister, possibly later today, marking his return to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Later in the day at 4 PM, Nitish Kumar will take oath as the Chief Minister of the new JD(U)-BJP government. This will be the ninth time Nitish Kumar leads the state.
As all parties plan crucial meetings, Bihar is poised to witness high-voltage political moves. The RJD camp is exploring options to deal with the crisis, including the possibility of asking their MLAs to resign.
“I have resigned as the Chief Minister, and I have also told the Governor to dissolve the government in the state. This situation arose because not everything was alright. I was getting views from everyone, and I listened to all of them. Today, the government has been dissolved. I was not happy with the new alliance,” said Nitish Kumar while addressing reporters.
Before submitting his resignation, Kumar is expected to hold a customary meeting of the legislature party. Along with Nitish Kumar, two JD(U) leaders are scheduled to take oath today, including “Two Deputy CMs and a minister from the BJP.”
