Nitish Kumar wins floor test in Bihar Assembly

Guwahati: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar won the much-awaited floor test in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

The bulk of the “Mahagathbandhan” alliance government by-votes were won by CM Kumar.

The ruling coalition’s MLAs’ no-confidence motion forced BJP speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha to step down from his position prior to the floor test.

He said, β€œThe Chair is ‘Panch Parmeshwar’. What message do you want to give by casting suspicions on the Chair? People will make a decision.”

The session had been postponed earlier till 2 pm, at which point deputy speaker Maheshwar Hazari took over.

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) carried out a raid at the home of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLC Sunil Singh in Patna in connection with an alleged land-for-railroads-jobs scam today, before of the key Bihar floor test.

On August 10, following his resignation from the position and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, CM Kumar took his oath as chief minister for a record eighth time. He shook the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) hand once more.

In 2015, Kumar severed his ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined the RJD. Tejashwi Yadav, who was also the Deputy CM at the time, was accused of corruption, which caused him to leave the Mahagathbandhan coalition and reunite with the BJP in 2017.

Nitish Kumar severed ties with the NDA in favour of the RJD for the second time.
