NLC India Limited & APDCL Signs MoU To Empower Citizens

Guwahati: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NLC India Limited and Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. (APDCL) aims to provide citizens with the electricity they need while protecting the environment by employing green energy sources. Assam will create 1000 MW of solar energy in total.

Shri K. Mohan Reddy, Director (Planning & Projects), NLC India Limited (NLCIL) and Shri. Rakesh Kumar, Managing Director, APDCL, signed the MoU in presence of Shri Pralhad Joshi and Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Speaking in the event, Pralhad Joshi said that this move would strengthen the State’s electricity industry. Due to the nation’s growing electrification, the need for power is currently rising both domestically and internationally. The Minister claimed that India’s economy is the best-performing and fastest-growing in the world, and that in order to meet its growth goals and advance unhinderedly, India has to create more power.

According to Joshi, the project will cost Rs. 5,000 crores to develop and will employ between 1000 and 2000 people in the state during the construction phase and more during the operation and maintenance phase.

Joshi stated that thermal power needs to be accorded the same importance as coal production. He stated that 817 MT of coal are now produced in India.

The Union Minister emphasised that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s electrification programme in India has been one of the country’s greatest successes, and he claimed that the Modi administration gave rural electrification a boost as nearly all villages in India are now being connected to the electricity grid.

The Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, was thanked for his efforts by the Union Minister, who also gave the assurance that his Ministry would give the Assam Government all the assistance it needs to expand the power sector. Additionally, he pledged that the centre will increase its investment and endeavour to meet Assam’s power needs.

According to CM Sarma, Assam will need an extra 2000 MW of energy over the course of the next two years to meet its development objectives. He stated that 1000MW of renewable energy may be produced in the State via the joint venture between NLCIL and APDCL.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) intends to provide citizens with the necessary energy while preserving the environment with green energy sources and will increase the production of clean energy. The JV company will produce electricity using hydropower projects and all other renewable energy sources. The company will provide APDCL and other consumers inside or outside the State with the power generated by these Projects.
