NLU Meghalaya Marks Inaugural Foundation Day with Visionary Celebrations

Northeast Desk, 9th July: National Law University (NLU) Meghalaya celebrated its inaugural foundation day at the APJ Abdul Kalam Auditorium, attracting prominent legal and educational leaders who underscored the institution’s vital role in advancing legal education and justice in India.

Union Minister for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, addressed attendees via video conference, highlighting the necessity of legal reforms and the significant contributions institutions like NLU Meghalaya can make toward these changes. He emphasized the need for continuous improvement in legal education to meet evolving societal needs.

Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, present at the event, advocated for a multidisciplinary approach to legal education. She envisioned NLU Meghalaya as a crucible for nurturing not just proficient legal professionals but also compassionate citizens and innovative leaders. Her address emphasized the university’s potential to shape future generations who can tackle complex legal and social challenges.

Justice S. Vaidyanathan, Chancellor of NLU Meghalaya and Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, delivered a forward-looking speech on the future of education in a post-pandemic, technology-driven world. He stressed the critical importance of digital literacy and integrating artificial intelligence into legal education while cautioning that AI should complement rather than replace human judgment in the justice system.

The foundation day celebration underscored NLU Meghalaya’s dedication to adapting to the dynamic educational landscape and equipping students to face both national and global challenges. This event signifies a pivotal moment in the enhancement of legal education in the Northeast region.

The ceremony saw the attendance of notable figures including NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof. P. S. Shukla, Judges from the Meghalaya High Court, and Meghalaya Chief Secretary DP Wahlang, demonstrating strong institutional support and a shared vision for the university’s future.

NLU Meghalaya’s foundation day not only celebrated its inception but also set a tone of ambition and dedication towards the advancement of legal education and justice.
