‘No degrees without final exams’ SC upholds UGC guidelines
The Supreme Court on Friday refused to reject UGC notification recommending universities/colleges across the country to hold final examinations by Sept 30. In the UGC notification it was ruled that the final year examination for college/university students have to be held by September 30.
The Supreme Court said that no state can promote final year students without final examination as ordered by UGC. “If any state has taken a decision that it is not possible to hold exams, we grant them the liberty to approach the UGC to seek an extension of the deadline,” the apex court said.
According to Supreme Court, States must hold exams to promote students, and if they feels they can’t conduct exams, they must approach UGC for suitable reliefs.
