Normalcy Returns: Trains Resume Operations in Silchar After Flood Disruptions

Guwahati, 6th July: The Northeast Frontier Railway has announced the restoration of train services in Silchar following operationalization of the pit line on July 6.

Train no. 05659 (Silchar-Shribar) Passenger, train no. 05567 (Silchar-Bhairabi) Passenger, and Train no. 15641 (Silchar-New Tinsukia) Express have resumed their journeys as of July 6.

Meanwhile, Train no. 05660 (Shribar-Silchar) Passenger, Train no. 05568 (Bhairabi-Silchar) Passenger, and Train no. 15642 (New Tinsukia-Silchar) Express are scheduled to resume operations on July 7.

Earlier, heavy rainfall on July 1 had led to the closure of National Highway 27, which connects Haflong and Silchar in Assam. The downpour caused the Jatinga River in Dima Hasao district to overflow, submerging a critical section of the highway between Jatinga and Haflong.

Footage from the affected area showed the river in spate, leaving travelers stranded and disrupting vehicular movement. Authorities are actively engaged in clearing the road and restoring access to ensure normalcy at the earliest.
