North East Express accident: Relief Train Departs to Aid Stranded Passengers, CM Sarma

National Desk, 12th October: A relief train has already departed from Kamakhya Junction to bring the stranded passengers of Train 12506.

On the 11th of October night, a devastating incident unfolded as the North East Express, traveling from Delhi’s Anand Vihar Terminal to Assam’s Kamakhya Junction in Guwahati, derailed near Raghunathpur railway station in Bihar’s Buxar district. This tragic derailment has resulted in the loss of at least 4 lives and injuries to around 70 people, as confirmed by railway authorities.

The derailment occurred at 9:53 p.m., with six coaches of the train bearing the brunt of the mishap. Among them, two AC 3 Tier coaches toppled over, while four other coaches veered off the tracks.

In response to this distressing event, a quick and effective relief operation was initiated. Ambulances and medical personnel rushed to the scene to provide much-needed assistance to the injured passengers. Those with severe injuries were promptly transported to AIIMS, Patna, for specialized care.

The East Central Railway zone took decisive action to handle the situation, diverting 21 trains running on this route. Notably, this diversion included the Rajdhani Express, a key connection between Delhi and Dibrugarh. Additionally, two trains, Kashi Patna Jan Shatabdi Express (15125) and Patna Kashi Jan Shatabdi Express (15126), were canceled in the wake of the derailment.

While the incident remains under investigation to determine its precise cause, the railway authorities and local responders are working tirelessly to manage the aftermath of this unfortunate event.
