Northeast Indian Journalists Embark on Media Tour for Maha Kumbh 2025 Coverage
Shillong: A delegation of 14 journalists from Northeast India is set to cover the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj during a three-day media tour from January 21 to 23.
Organized by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government, the tour offers journalists a unique opportunity to document and share insights from one of the world’s largest spiritual gatherings.
The delegation consists of journalists from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, representing prominent media outlets.
Their coverage will highlight the cultural and spiritual significance of the Maha Kumbh, aiming to bring the experience to audiences in the Northeast and beyond.
The Maha Kumbh, scheduled from January 13 to February 26, 2025, is of deep mythological importance in Hindu tradition. It is believed to have originated from the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), where drops of nectar fell at four sacred locations: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik. The holy dip taken during the Kumbh is seen as a path to spiritual enlightenment and purification.
This year’s event is expected to attract over 45 crore attendees, including 15 lakh international visitors, significantly more than the 25 crore recorded in 2019. Journalists on the tour will explore and report on how the festival serves as a platform for unity across diverse communities and showcases India’s rich cultural heritage.
