Northeast on High Alert as IMD Forecasts Fresh Rain, Thundershowers
GUWAHATI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a fresh warning for Northeast India, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning over the next 24 hours. The advisory, issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati, puts several states on high alert for potential weather-related disruptions.
According to the RMC, Meghalaya is expected to see moderate rainfall at most places, while similar conditions are likely at many locations across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura. Mizoram is also on the radar for light to moderate showers. A significant concern is the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated pockets of Assam, with similar heavy downpours expected in isolated parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura.
The weather office has also warned of thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places across all seven northeastern states. In Guwahati, the city is braced for a generally cloudy sky with a couple of spells of rain or thundershowers. Temperatures are predicted to range between a maximum of 33°C and a minimum of 26°C.
In light of the weather forecast, the IMD has urged the public to exercise caution, especially during thunderstorms and heavy rain. Citizens are advised to stay updated on real-time weather forecasts using the “Mausam” app, access agrometeorological advisories through “Meghdoot,” and stay safe from lightning strikes with the “Damini” app. The advisory serves as a timely reminder for residents to take necessary precautions and be prepared for the approaching wet spell.
